Why did you open an office in Austin, Texas?
Is it because the city is expected to add another 1.5 million residents to a population of 4 million by 2040?
no.
Is it because over 25 million people visit Austin each year, and more tourists than Rome or Hawaii each year?
no.
That’s because the city of Austin has the fastest growing millionaire population in the United States (doubling to 30,500 between 2012 and 2022) (including 86 cent millionaires and nine billionaires). Is not it?
no.
Surely it must be a food truck. Or bats? Willie Nelson? University of Texas? Is Josh’s favorite restaurant Red Ash? Formula 1? Bryker Woods? Barton Creek? Zilker?
No, no, no, no, no.
Why did we open in Austin? The same reason Ritholtz Wealth Management opened its doors everywhere else it has roots: we found the right advisors. Since our company’s inception, we’ve made a conscious decision to expand based on talent, not zip code or fame. As such, we have offices in Oregon and South Carolina, but no offices in Los Angeles, Washington DC, or Miami. We’re not looking for wealthy enclaves or fancy neighborhoods. Instead, we continue to identify talented financial planners who empathize with our culture and value our fans and clients.
And even if you don’t try hard, you may meet the next candidate who is perfect for that company. And only the perfect fit will pass. Michael is very guarded about it. In 2021, we have hired two financial advisors. In 2022 there were no hires. No need to rush.
Anyway, I am happy to announce that I have found a financial planner in Austin, Texas and are now open for business. Austin is a great city for us. We have spent a lot of time in Austin over the years and have many fans, readers and viewers in the area. We love this place and are so excited to have a reason to visit again.
On June 12th, 13th and 14th of this year, we will be attending a city meeting with our company’s customers and future customers in the area.
