At the time, I couldn’t get enough of Blanche’s romantic adventures, Dorothy’s no-nonsense demeanor, Sophia’s sassy return, and Rose’s Minnesota naivety. I now realize that ’80s sitcoms were not only cultural commentaries on aging and friendships, but a blueprint for how to live an affordable retirement.
