County Treasurer Wins Award

The Flathead County Treasurer has again won the Association of Government Treasurers Special Budget Presentation Award for its budget.

This is the 14th year the division has received the award, according to the county.

The 2022 list of honorees is still being compiled, but only county treasurers, including Bozeman, Butte Silver Bow, and Great Falls, have received awards from the GFOA in Montana.

Budget presentations show all county departments in one view, giving the public and commissioners a better understanding of how counties are spending taxpayer funds.

“All department heads and elected officials are working together on this. It’s a culture of administration across the county,” said county administrator Pete Melnick.

To receive the budget award, the county had to meet nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.This award reflects the commitment of rulers

Agencies and staff to meet the highest principles of government budgeting, according to the Association of Government Finance Officials.

“It’s been very rewarding to see how our county is running,” said Flathead County Commissioner Pam Holmquist. “Our citizens appreciate this very much.”
