FORT WAYNE, IN (WANE) — From representing the 1977 class to becoming a longtime JROTC instructor, Sgt. Freshman Alan Conrad spent decades at Concordia Lutheran High School (CLHS). It has made a big presence.
To honor Sgt. During Conrad’s time at CLHS before retiring at the end of the school year, the school brought back many alumni on Friday to surprise him at the CLHS’ JROTC program’s end-of-year awards ceremony.
After graduating in 1977, Sgt. Conrad served in the Army for over a decade before returning to his CLHS in 1994.
Debbie Sham, CLHS director of financial aid, said she was one of the Sergeants. She was Conrad’s first student at JROTC and Conrad was a great mentor to her.
“He was a great mentor in high school, taught me leadership throughout the program, and helped me become who I am today,” Shum said.
Shum also said that so many alumni turned up that every seat in the room was taken.
The school’s JROTC program aims to develop confident and caring Christian leaders and citizens.
